Justice for The United Strand! Man Utd looking into Old Trafford attack on supporter growing out hair until team wins five games in a row

Manchester United are reportedly investigating footage that showed one of their fans being attacked by another during their 2-1 win over Chelsea. Frank Ilett has gone viral for refusing to cut his hair until Ruben Amorim's side win five games in a row – something that led to him being verbally abused at Old Trafford. Now, the club are looking into the matter.

  • Man Utd fan's challenge goes on

Ilett, who has dubbed himself 'The United Strand', began this challenge in October 2024 (when Amorim joined the club), and now he has a full-on afro at a time when Amorim's team have struggled greatly. He now has hundreds of thousands of followers on social media, but one fan took umbrage with his stunt on Sunday.

On the day of United's win over Chelsea, a supporter was seen grabbing Ilett's hair, while trying to push him over in the Old Trafford concourse. He was verbally abused, and now the states that if the culprit is found, they will face 'strong sanctions'.

  • Man Utd eyeing winning run

The report adds that United are aware of the video, which has been widely circulated online. Incidentally, the last time United won five games in a row was under Amorim's predecessor, Erik Ten Hag, back in February 2024.

Ruben Amorim's side a long way off five straight wins

United need to beat Brentford, Sunderland, Liverpool, and Brighton in their next four Premier League games to make it five wins in a row. Considering they have won just two games this season, that stretch seems unlikely.

Man Utd begin work on Old Trafford expansion as club install 6,000 new safe-standing seats to improve atmosphere

Manchester United have confirmed they have begun work to add 6,000 safe standing seats at Old Trafford. The Red Devils are planning on building a new £2 billion stadium but for the time being, the club are thinking about the here and now. The Premier League giants hope that this short-term changes will improve the atmosphere at their iconic home.

  • Man Utd begin safe standing works

The club have said that they have started work on a 'significant expansion' of rail seating in tier two of the Stretford End. This will double the current provision of safe standing inside United's ground. The Red Devils state that this installation will be completed by the end of October.

Separate from Man Utd new stadium plans

While this is happening, United are planning to build a new £2bn stadium, with as many as 100,000 seats – something that Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants to see become the ‘Wembley of the North’. But those plans are a way off from becoming reality.

  • Patience required from Man Utd fans

The club states that the first phase of seats will be in place for the visit of Sunderland at the start of October. However, the section will remain licensed as seated for that game until the installation is completed and formally approved by the Sports Grounds Safety Authority (SGSA).

Man Utd aim to build on Chelsea win

After beating Chelsea 2-1 at the weekend, Amorim's United are back in Premier League action away to lowly Brentford on Saturday. They then host Sunderland on October 4 before the next international break rolls around.

Fabrizio Romano: Arsenal could move for "interesting" target in £43m star

Fabrizio Romano has shared an intriguing transfer update, and one which could open the door for Arsenal to make another signing before the deadline.

Mikel Arteta and Andrea Berta have already enjoyed a fantastic summer window, spending north of £200 million on an array of key additions throughout the squad, whilst perhaps most notably ending the club’s long wait for a prolific striker by signing Viktor Gyokeres.

Alongside the Swede, who now dons Thierry Henry’s iconic number 14 shirt, Kepa Arrizabalaga joined as a reliable, low-cost backup goalkeeper from Chelsea.

In midfield, Martin Zubimendi arrived from Real Sociedad for around £51 million, offering more stability to Arteta’s already excellent options in the middle, while Christian Nørgaard soon followed after the Spaniard – bringing with him real Premier League experience as former captain of Brentford.

The attack received a further boost through Noni Madueke’s initial £48.5 million from Chelsea, with Arsenal also strengthening Arteta’s defence by signing highly-rated young centre-half Cristhian Mosquera from Valencia.

Despite their busy summer, and their need to sell, Arsenal continue to explore late additions.

Eberechi Eze – who was once released from the club’s academy – stood out as a key target for Berta earlier in the window and was heavily linked with a move back to the Emirates Stadium at one point.

Arsenal held talks with Eze’s representatives, and he was reportedly keen on joining, but it is now believed that the 27-year-old England international is closing in on a move to Tottenham instead – after both Spurs and Crystal Palace reached a verbal agreement this week.

With Eze now off the table, according to widespread reports, there is still a chance that Arsenal will sign a left-winger.

This would be dependent on Leandro Trossard leaving the club, though, amid links to Real Madrid’s Rodrygo among others (Ben Jacobs).

Arsenal could move for Atalanta outcast Ademola Lookman

Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman, as per Romano, could emerge as a last-gasp summer opportunity – with a move to Inter Milan now off the cards.

Atalanta's AdemolaLookmanin action

The Nigerian submitted a transfer request recently, and confirmed his intention to leave, but the Nerazzurri have been unable to reach a deal and are now looking at other attacking targets.

Therefore, a Premier League return has now become increasingly more likely, with Romano suggesting that Arsenal could move for Lookman if Trossard leaves.

The versatile 27-year-old, who bagged 20 goals and seven assists in all competitions across 2024/2025, commands a price tag of around £43 million – which could be seen as a bargain considering the player’s exploits in the last 24 months.

Lookman famously ended Bayer Leverkusen’s season-long unbeaten streak with a stunning Europa League final hat-trick against them last year, clinching 2024’s African Player of the Year award.

Premier League cult hero, Jay-Jay Okocha, has also praised Lookman as a “unique” player.

'He's unbelievable' – Pundit insists Man Utd should appoint ROY KEANE as new manager and 'can't believe' call hasn't already been made to former captain

Ex-Tottenham midfielder Jamie O'Hara has called for Manchester United to hire former captain Roy Keane as manager, in a bid to reverse the Red Devils' atrocious form under Ruben Amorim. The talkSPORT pundit lauded the fiery Irishman for his leadership skills, saying the 58-year-old would "not allow poor standards". O'Hara did acknowledge the club was highly unlikely to make the move, however.

  • O'Hara praises Keane's leadership skills

Speculation over Amorim's future has predictably resurfaced after United fell to a lacklustre 3-1 defeat away to Brentford this past weekend. O'Hara believes the paucity of standards within the United dressing room needs an urgent fix, something a hard taskmaster like Keane could provide.

The former Tottenham midfielder went as far as to suggest it was "unbelievable" that nobody at United had reached out to Keane for his involvement in the increasingly shambolic goings on at Old Trafford

Speaking on Wednesday on Sky Sports, O'Hara said: "I'm amazed that no one has phoned Roy Keane and said, 'Can you come in at Man Utd and be part of what we're doing here?' because he is arguably Man Utd's greatest captain.

"He is a leader. He's unbelievable. When you watch him, he's ferocious, you listen to him, when he walks into a dressing room, you're going to listen.

"He's going to lead by example. He's not going to allow poor standards. I can't believe Manchester United have not phoned Roy Keane.

"Maybe it's because he can't be the manager.

"Maybe it's because he's too hot-headed, I don't know. They want someone in with more tactical nous or whatever.

"How Roy Keane isn't in there at that football club, in the dressing room, in there every day at the training ground telling them this is the standard, this is what's Man Utd, this is what we've built, this is how we do it… I cannot believe they've not done something like that."

  • Getty Images Entertainment

    United's terrible form under Amorim

Whether O'Hara's idea has any legs, it's clear something needs to change at United. The Red Devils have won just two of their first six Premier League games this season, with Amorim criticised for failing to get the most out of notable summer signings like Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko, while steadfastly sticking with a faltering 3-4-2-1 system.

His 34 points in 33 league games as United boss is a paltry return on his tenure. The 3-1 loss at Brentford is the Portuguese's 17th loss in the Premier League.

  • Keane's managerial record

While O'Hara's rousing call to arms for Keane to return to Old Trafford in some guise may resonate with some embattled United supporters, there's little evidence to suggest the Irishman could right the ship. The 54-year-old as not held a managerial position since leaving Ipswich Town in 2014. While he has experience as a number two since then, most notably alongside Martin O'Neill for the Republic of Ireland, his abrasive style which O'Hara seemingly thinks would return to the club to a golden age is just as likely to cause discontent in a modern dressing room.

Keane, of course, has not played the game since 2006 and played in a completely different era; however, he does know what success looks like, winning seven Premier League trophies, as well as four FA Cups and the Champions League during his time at Old Trafford. United's current woes would surely have him tearing his hair out.

Keane to stay in media, but farewell to Amorim?

For all of his intimation that he does not enjoy working in the football media, it seems Keane is very content with his current workload. His comedy double act alongside Ian Wright on Stick to Football and ITV's international coverage never fails to deliver, while his diatribes against the 'babies' in the Premier Leagues on Sky Sports makes for appointment viewing. It's unlikely he will want to return to the club in any guise given just how poorly it seemingly being run. O'Hara might just fancy nipping in a couple of Keane's vacant punditry spots rather than genuinely feeling the Irishman should involve himself in the Manchester United melodrama.

Tottenham hold talks with £60m playmaker after Eberechi Eze blow

Tottenham are working to sign an alternative to Eberechi Eze after their deal with Crystal Palace fell apart by the seams.

Despite agreeing both personal terms with the 27-year-old and the finances of a deal with Palace, Arsenal swooped in at the last moment to agree a deal of their own for Eze, and once left with the choice, the boyhood Gunners supporter was always going to pick N5.

It comes as Tottenham’s second public transfer mishap of the window, after also seeing an advanced deal for Morgan Gibbs-White blocked by Nottingham Forest in bizarre fashion earlier this summer.

For Thomas Frank, who’s now bereft of any playmaker at all following James Maddison’s long-term ACL injury and Dejan Kulusevski’s absence, it is a hammer blow and one that needs rectifying as soon as possible.

That being said, in response to all the reports surrounding Eze’s rejection, Frank has made it crystal clear that he only wants players with a burning desire to wear the Tottenham shirt.

Of the alternatives mentioned by media sources, a few have emerged in the past 48 hours.

Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche, Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers, Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott and Leicester City’s Bilal El Khannouss are just some of the names linked with moves to N17 after Eze’s move elsewhere, with Como sensation Nico Paz apparently still in their thinking as well.

The latter was reportedly subject to a rejected Tottenham bid earlier in the window, according to Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio, with Como holding out for around £60 million to even consider a sale.

Napoli's Giacomo Raspadori in action with Como'sNicoPaz

The Argentine’s future is also tied heavily with his former club, Real Madrid, who possess a hefty 50 per cent sell-on clause and the option of bringing him back to the Bernabeu for a reduced fee in both 2026 and 2027.

Tottenham hold talks with Nico Paz's representatives after Eberechi Eze blow

According to TBR Football, amid other reports that Tottenham are preparing a fresh attempt for Paz, it is believed that Spurs have also held talks with the 20-year-old’s representatives in the aftermath of their Eze blow.

Paz bagged six goals and nine assists under Cesc Fàbregas last season as one of Como’s standout performers, with the ex-Madrid man shining among Serie A’s latest rising stars.

However, journalist Graeme Bailey also told TBR that a move for Paz carries plenty of risk, even if Spurs have explored it through intermediaries with the player.

Footballing icon Lionel Messi is on record calling Paz “incredible” for some of his traits, but Levy definitely won’t be keen on losing a hefty sum of money on him in the future.

Everton consider out of window deal for free agent loved by Thierry Henry

Everton are interested in sealing the signing of a “sensational” Premier League champion before the January transfer window even opens.

Moyes positive ahead of Everton's return to action

The Blues are back in league action this weekend, hosting Aston Villa at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday afternoon, as they look to build on an impressive start to the season.

Everton manager David Moyes is certainly in positive spirits, assessing the current situation during the international break, in terms of getting certain players back fit and kicking on further.

“We’ll get a few players who probably need a bit more pre-season training. We’ve got a few players who need a bit more recovery, we’ve got a few who have got some injuries, but it gives us a chance to sort of regroup but it’s great to go away knowing we’ve picked up six points in the three games we’ve played.

“It’s a decent start for us in the league and we want to keep challenging, we want to be in a high place if we can be but we’ll certainly not get carried away, that’s for sure. We’ve got a lot to do but I’m pleased that I think we’ve played well enough today.”

Moyes will be happy with his summer recruitment at Everton, with the likes of Jack Grealish and Tyler Dibling among the exciting signings they have made, but another reinforcement in the attacking midfield areas wouldn’t go amiss after losing Abdoulaye Doucouré in the summer.

Everton keen on signing "sensational" free agent

According to The Boot Room‘s Graeme Bailey, Everton are among the clubs interested in signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on a free transfer. The former Liverpool man is without a club after departing Besiktas earlier this summer, with the Blues joined by the likes of Leeds United and Burnley also believed to be eyeing him up.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain at Liverpool.

Oxlade-Chamberlain would be something of a risk, considering he is now 32 years of age and arguably past his best, but the free aspect of the move would make it less of a gamble for Everton.

If Moyes believes the 2019/20 Premier League champion still has plenty to offer, he should be trusted, with Jurgen Klopp describing him as “sensational” and Thierry Henry also once hailing the progress he made after joining Liverpool from Arsenal, after not knowing his best position for years.

Wayne Rooney, Tyson Fury and Liam Gallagher among mourners at huge turnout for Ricky Hatton's funeral as Manchester pays tribute to boxing legend and huge Man City fan

Wayne Rooney, Tyson Fury and Liam Gallagher were among the mourners at Ricky Hatton's funeral, with a huge turnout attracted in Manchester as respects were paid to the former boxing world champion. Hatton tragically passed away at his home in Hyde on September 14. The Manchester City-supporting fighting legend, who thrilled and inspired millions around the world, was just 46 years of age.

  • Thousands pay respect to Hatton

Hatton’s funeral procession started at 9:45am on October 10 outside his local pub, the Cheshire Cheese, and was led by a yellow Reliant Robin car made famous by the Only Fools and Horses sitcom. Hatton was a big fan of that show and once bought one of the original three-wheelers for £4,000.

The cortege stopped at Hatton’s boxing gym and the AO Arena in Manchester, where the larger-than-life Stockport native enjoyed some of his most memorable nights in the ring – including his iconic victory over Kostya Tsyzu in June 2005 that landed a first world title.

Thousands of grieving supporters lined the streets, with a private memorial ceremony taking place at Manchester Cathedral. Following that service, the commemorative march moves on to the Etihad Stadium – the home of Hatton’s beloved City.

    Rooney mourns close friend

Manchester United icon Rooney, who carried Hatton’s belts in Las Vegas prior to a win over Jose Luis Castillo, was among those in attendance. Oasis frontman Gallagher, who accompanied his fellow Mancunian to the ring ahead of a clash with Paulie Malignaggi in 2008, was another of the mourners.

Former world heavyweight champion Fury was also at the emotional gathering in Manchester, alongside fellow boxers Tony Bellew and Amir Khan, England cricket great Andrew Flintoff, City icon Mike Summerbee and former football player-turned-pundit Chris Kamara.

  • Fury honours fellow icon of boxing

Rooney said upon hearing of Hatton’s passing: "Ricky was such a good lad and a good person. He is someone who captured the nation, in terms of the support he got, they followed him all around the world. I want to pay my condolences to his family and everyone who is really close to him. It is way too soon. It has not fully kicked in, it's devastating. Heartbreaking. I am sure over the next few days from everyone across the country we will see a lot of messages and people will understand what a true gentleman and good person he was."

Fury said when paying tribute to his close friend and idol: "Today is the day of Ricky Hatton's funeral, and I am not going to be alone when I say this… Ricky inspired me as a young boy to go on and do great things in boxing. I wanted to be just like him; the ringwalks, the flashy shorts, the fans, the chanting. When I was a little kid, he was fighting for his world title in Manchester against Kostya Tszyu and I was there along with a lot of young proper kids who were also inspired by Ricky. So, without Ricky Hatton, Manchester would not have had, the North West would not have had, the UK would not have had so many boxing world champions… inspired by the great Richard 'the Hitman' Hatton. Rest in peace, Rick. See you soon, buddy."

Hatton remains popular among British sports fans

Hatton won 45 of his 48 matches, with his all-action style and penchant for living life to the full outside of the ring earning him a legion of loyal supporters. He will be remembered as one of the greatest fighters that British boxing ever produced – and definitely one of the most popular.

Having taken part in a no-scoring exhibition bout with Mexican great Marco Antonio Barrera in 2022, Hatton had been planning another step between the ropes. He announced in July 2025 that he would be taking part in a professional bout taking place in Dubai.

Said event was due to be staged in December, with his family saying that Hatton had been in a “good place” and was “excited” about what the immediate future held prior to his death being announced.

Sunderland bid £17m to sign star who just scored big Champions League goal

Sunderland made a “decisive” move for a former Premier League player this summer, with the individual in question scoring a huge Champions League goal this week.

Le Bris ready for "tough" Aston Villa challenge

The Black Cats are back in league action on Sunday afternoon, welcoming Aston Villa to the Stadium of Light, as the hosts look to continue their good start to the season.

On the flip side, Villa haven’t got going at all yet, not even scoring a single Premier League goal in their opening four games, but Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris expects a “tough” challenge for his side this weekend.

“It’s important to take points where it’s possible. Sometimes you play well and you can deserve to win something but in the end you don’t because the Premier League is really tough. But in different games, it’s possible to win points so we did that. The efficiency and the quality of our game connected so we need to keep going.

“Another tough challenge at home. We will prepare this game properly. We have one week and I hope we will be at the level.”

It was a hugely productive summer transfer window for Sunderland, with so many new faces arriving, but a fresh claim suggests that they missed out on acquiring the signature of one player.

Sunderland missed out on Champions League ace

According to TuttoSport [via Sport Witness], Sunderland made a “decisive” move to sign Juventus defender Lloyd Kelly earlier in the summer, tabling an offer and looking to snap him up for £17.4m, bringing him in on loan with an obligation to buy.

The 26-year-old rejected the Black Cats advances, though, as well as Fenerbahce’s, staying put in Turin and scoring a dramatic equaliser in his side’s 4-4 draw at home to Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday evening.

Sunderland failing to sign Kelly is a shame, considering the Englishman is a proven player at the top level, making 64 appearances in the Premier League, as well as being able to shine at centre-back and left-back. Not only that, but Gary O’Neil showered him with praise during their time together at Bournemouth, having kept Mohamed Salah quiet in a game.

“I thought Lloyd was incredible. I think he had a 12-week ankle injury followed by a six-week calf injury. Didn’t have much time in between, and then came back today having not trained much, to play left back against one of the best wingers in the world. I thought he showed everything, the potential he has to be a top defender.”

Sunderland have signed a "genius" who's becoming their new Cattermole

Regis Le Bris could now have his very own Lee Cattermole in this Sunderland warrior.

Kelly appears to be happy at Juventus, playing an important role in big games, but if the chance does arise for Sunderland to snap him up again in the near future, whether that be in January or next summer, they should look to strike a deal.

Barcelona player ratings vs Girona: Ronald Araujo at the death – Uruguayan spares Marcus Rashford's blushes as fuming Hansi Flick loses his head

Lamine Yamal marked his return with an assist as substitute Ronald Araujo rescued a late win for Barcelona against Girona, sparing a wasteful Marcus Rashford's blushes in the process. In a frantic end to the game, that Barca won at the death 2-1, head coach Hansi Flick was sent off – a costly red card that means he'll be forced to watch next week's Clasico from the stands.

Injury-hit Barca were looking to end a two-game losing run and all without Joan Garcia, Robert Lewandowski, Dani Olmo and Raphinha, with Flick forced to name a weakened team as a result. Yamal, who was back in action after injury, did make the starting XI, though, and provided his fourth assist of the season for Pedri early in the first half as the hosts made their dominance count.

Girona were level in the 20th minute through an acrobatic Axel Witsel effort and could have doubled their advantage had Wojciech Szczesny not made smart stops to deny Vladyslav Vanat and Portu in quick succession. Rashford then smashed a free-kick off the crossbar on the half-hour mark as the Blaugrana aimed to make home advantage count.

Barcelona continued to huff and puff after the break, with Fermin Lopez, who was introduced at half-time, looking lively having struck the woodwork shortly after the restart. Pau Cubarsi then saw a second-half goal ruled out, while Rashford fluffed his lines from close range as Girona came close to securing an unlikely point.

However, the resolve was broken in second-half injury time as Araujo bagged a late winner and Barcelona's superiority paid off at the death.

    Goalkeeper & Defence

    Wojciech Szczesny (6/10):

Could do little to prevent Axel Witsel's sublime equaliser. Made two smart stops to deny Vladyslav Vanat and Portu in quick succession shortly after Witsel's goal. Was rarely tested in the second half.

    Jules Kounde (6/10):

After a solid first half, the Frenchman was caught ball watching and had to recover quickly to block a Bryan Gil effort behind for a Girona corner minutes after half time. Did well to win possession high up the pitch that almost resulted in a Lamine Yamal goal.

    Eric Garcia (5/10):

Needed Szczesny to bail him out having played Portu onside but did just enough to put the Girona forward off his stride. Even so, he struggled with the high defensive line before being moved into midfield.

    Pau Cubarsi (6/10):

Should have done better to prevent Witsel's first half strike having lost the Belgian. Did get forward with a driving run to force Girona back that almost resulted in a goal. Saw a second half goal ruled out for a foul.

    Alejandro Balde (7/10):

Kept Bryan Gil quiet in the opening 45 minutes. Pushed forward effectively and was a tad unfortunate not to register an assist. Came off for Gerard Martin for the final knockings.

    Midfield

    Pedri (8/10):

Bagged his second league goal of the season early on, with his low drive leaving Paulo Gazzaniga rooted to the spot after some nice footwork in the Girona box. Withdrawn midway through the second half.

    Frenkie de Jong (7/10):

Drove the home side forward well from the middle of the park and forced Gazzaniga into a first half good save. Pushed forward down the right brilliantly to provide a late assist for Ronald Araujo

    Marc Casado (6/10):

A solid if unspectacular showing. He kept Barcelona ticking over in the midfield without needing to break into a sweat.

  • AFP

    Attack

    Lamine Yamal (8/10):

Took just 13 minutes to impact the game upon his return to the starting XI, providing an early assist for Pedri. Forced Gazzaniga into action 10 minutes after the interval before he was taken off on the hour mark. A bright return to action for the 18-year-old.

    Toni Fernandez (3/10):

A subdued first half, bar a nice touch for De Jong to test Gazzaniga. Was withdrawn at the break for Fermin Lopez.

    Marcus Rashford (6/10):

Struck the crossbar with a fine free kick on the half-hour mark. Pushed through the middle for the second half but didn't look quite as comfortable as he does out on the left. Fluffed his lines after being picked out brilliantly by Roony Bardghji but almost made amends moments later as he was denied by Gazzaniga at the near post. Even so, the on-loan forward looked lively and was unfortunate not to score.

    Subs & Manager

    Fermin Lopez (7/10):

Replaced Toni Fernandez for the second half. Came close to putting Barca ahead shortly after the restart as he struck Gazzaniga's near post with a low drive.

    Andreas Christensen (6/10):

Solid in possession but did little of note after his introduction.

    Roony Bardghji (6/10):

Almost made an immediate impact as he found Marcus Rashford with a fine trivela cross.

    Gerard Martin (6/10):

Wasn't significantly involved in the game after coming on.

    Ronald Araujo (8/10):

Replaced Marc Casado for the final 10. Barcelona's saviour in second half injury time to secure all the spoils.

    Hansi Flick (7/10):

Was forced to name a weakened XI due to injuries but watched his side dominate regardless. Second half subs made a difference as Ronald Araujo rescued victory. Sent off in second half injury time meaning he'll be forced to watch El Clasico from the stands.

Liverpool plan to beat Real Madrid to £40m+ La Liga star as Leoni ACL injury confirmed

Following Giovanni Leoni’s injury against Southampton, Liverpool are reportedly determined to sign a £40m+ La Liga defender ahead of rival interest from Real Madrid in 2026.

Leoni suffers ACL injury blow

On a night that Liverpool were forced to win late on once again, this time against Southampton in the Carabao Cup, Leoni’s injury stole a fair share of the headlines.

The young defender was stretchered off in the 81st minute courtesy of what appeared to be a knee injury and whilst Arne Slot admitted that a scan was needed to determine the extent of that injury, the worst-case scenario has now been confirmed by Fabrizio Romano.

Slot had told reporters: “Normally these things don’t happen in five to 10 minutes, and you have to wait for tomorrow to see how he comes in and then maybe do an MRI scan to know more about how serious it is.

“Normally the emotions of a player tell you a lot. I saw during the weekend a player in the Dutch Eredivisie who went out completely in tears – Ruben van Bommel, by the way, of PSV – and a day later it proved to be that it was right.”

Injury expert Physio Scout revealed in detail the likely recovery time for the different levels of knee injury, with the defender now unlikely to feature much this season.

With the young Italian seemingly out for the season, Liverpool are rumoured to be back in the transfer market in search of a swift replacement after failing to land Marc Guehi on deadline day.

Liverpool racing Real Madrid to sign Tarrega

According to reports in Spain, Liverpool are now determined to beat Real Madrid to Cesar Tarrega in 2026. The 23-year-old has enjoyed a rapid rise at Valencia, who have set their price at €50m (£44m), and is reportedly seen as someone that could become a long-term replacement for Virgil van Dijk at Anfield.

Meanwhile, in the immediate future, the Valencia star would provide ample cover for the injured Leoni. If the Reds keep their foothold in all four competitions, then Slot will need an additional option at centre-back, especially given the added injury history of Joe Gomez.
