وأضاف: “الزمالك سبق أن لجأ إلى الانسحاب من قبل، ولم أكن راضيًا أو موافقًا على هذا القرار، بل كنت من معارضيه، لأن الرياضة أسمى من هذه الممارسات، وأتمنى تطبيق اللوائح بحذافيرها على الجميع”.

واختتم رئيس الزمالك الأسبق تصريحاته برسالة مباشرة للطرفين، قائلًا: “كفى تهييجًا للرأي العام وتكديرًا للسلم والأمن العام.. مصر لديها ما يكفي من المشاكل، ولا تحتاج إلى صراعات جديدة بين الأهلي والزمالك”.

وتأتي هذه الأزمة قبل ساعات من مواجهة القمة المرتقبة، التي ستقام على استاد القاهرة الدولي في التاسعة والنصف مساءً، ضمن الجولة الأولى من المرحلة النهائية لتحديد بطل الدوري المصري الممتاز.

ويمر الدوري بأجواءً مشحونة بعدما رفض الأهلي إسناد المباراة إلى طاقم تحكيم مصري، مطالبًا بحكام أجانب، وهو ما لم يتحقق بسبب ضيق الوقت وفقًا لما أعلنه اتحاد الكرة.

في المقابل، أكد الزمالك التزامه بخوض المباراة في موعدها المحدد، مشددًا على احترامه للوائح البطولة وعدم كونه طرفًا في الأزمة، بينما يظل الموقف النهائي للأهلي غير واضح، في انتظار ما ستسفر عنه الساعات المقبلة.

Reliable journalist Adam Pope has given an update on the absence of Leeds United player Patrick Bamford in the 3-0 victory against Plymouth Argyle on Saturday afternoon.

The Whites hosted a struggling Plymouth side in the Championship knowing that they were strong favourites to prevail at Elland Road. While the league is one of the hardest to predict in Europe, it never felt like being anything other than a home win on Saturday.

Daniel Farke’s side raced into a 3-0 lead before half-time, effectively putting the game to bed, with Dan James, Joel Piroe and Brenden Aaronson all finding the back of the net. It meant that Leeds were able to be in cruise control during the second half, with the scoreline not changing and the hosts preserving energy ahead of more fixtures during a busy period.

The Whites’ one-sided victory means they sit second in the Championship table and look in a great position to go one better than last season, sealing promotion to the Premier League, hopefully by virtue of finishing in one of the two automatic places.

Sunderland’s 0-0 draw away to Queens Park Rangers also means that Leeds are now only three points behind the current league leaders, so it was a positive afternoon all round for Farke and his players. Bamford was absent from proceedings, however, and a key update has emerged explaining why.

Writing on X, Pope claimed that “we’re told Bamford is ill today”, adding in a separate post that the Leeds striker “couldn’t train but maybe back for Millwall” on Wednesday evening.

It is good to know that the 31-year-old’s absence wasn’t because of an injury, suggesting that he will overcome his illness and be available for selection again in no time, potentially even for the trip to Millwall in the coming days.

That being said, the £70,000-a-week Bamford has been a spectator for much of this season, seemingly not being rated by Farke as a key player. He has only actually appeared in five Championship matches in total and hasn’t started a single game in the competition in 2024/25 to date. Just 47 minutes of action have come his way in the process, showing that he has barely been a part of the campaign.

The Englishman has undeniable quality that could still be important during a long and taxing season, though, with former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp even once waxing lyrical over him, saying: “He’s an exceptional player, perfect. The work rate is outstanding and still playing the football he plays on top of that and scoring goals, that’s rare.”

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Bamford, but he is out of contract in the summer of 2026, so next year currently feels like the right time to part ways. That would allow Leeds to receive a fee for him, and let the attacker enjoy more regular player time away from Elland Road.

Opening batter Saif Hassan has been ruled out of the second Test against Pakistan starting December 4 after he fell ill with typhoid.Saif had a tough time in the Chattogram Test, getting bounced out twice by Shaheen Shah Afridi for 14 and 18. Saif averages 14.45 in 11 Test innings with a high score of 43. Shakib Al Hasan has been included in Bangladesh’s squad for the two-match Test series in New Zealand that begins on New Year’s Day, despite the allrounder having informed the BCB “unofficially” that he does not want to be on the tour, according to the board president Nazmul Hassan.”He hasn’t informed us officially. He told us unofficially,” Hassan said. “We told him to inform us officially. He has to give a reason. Shakib contributes with either bat or ball. He strengthens the team combination. West Bromwich Albion have been in the Championship for many years on the spin now, worrying that their time to return to the promised land of the Premier League simply keeps passing them by.

This campaign could be different, but the wheels have started to come off Carlos Corberan’s well-oiled machine in recent weeks, to start the groans and moans around the Hawthorns that another promotion near miss is on the horizon.

Winless in their last eight matches in the second tier, something needs to change fast for the Baggies to break out of this sorry stretch of form, with Alex Mowatt arguably one player that needs to step up his performance levels.

Mowatt's form this season

The former Leeds United midfielder hasn’t been at his most creative for his out-of-form side across their recent patch of poor games, with no goal contributions coming his way across West Brom’s last seven league clashes.

Before that, the exciting 29-year-old had managed to notch up an impressive three goals in the league, as his side raced out of the blocks to be near the top of the Championship summit, which saw him score a sumptuous brace away at Portsmouth in September.

In total for the Baggies, across his four seasons at the club now, Mowatt has amassed nine goals and seven assists across 97 appearances, as he no doubt dreams about playing a major role in steering his side back up to the big time come the end of the unpredictable campaign.

West Brom did drop the ball with another former midfield talent, away from the ex-Leeds man coming good at the Hawthorns, with the one-time Baggies academy prodigy even outperforming the 29-year-old this season in the second tier.

The player in question here is Finn Azaz, who was briefly on the books of the West Midlands outfit as a youngster, before moving onto Aston Villa still as a wide-eyed starlet.

This is a well-travelled path for many academy products that do end up departing the Hawthorns during the infancy of their careers, with Morgan Rogers, Louie Barry and many more upping and leaving for the allure of the Villans after being discovered at West Brom.

The then West Brom boss Valerien Ismael would allow Azaz to move onto Villa for free in 2021, and although he would never go on to make a professional appearance at Villa Park after this switch took place, it’s still a situation the Baggies must rue when you consider Azaz’s numbers for Middlesbrough this season in the Championship.

The 24-year-old has been a much-needed creative spark for Michael Carrick’s Boro this campaign to date, with three goals and five assists tallied up from 14 second-tier clashes, which included Azaz putting it on a plate for Tommy Conway to fire home away at Queens Park Rangers last time out.

Consequently, he is outperforming Mowatt, who has five fewer goals and assists than Azaz.

Carrick’s men will continue to rely on the incisive nature of their number 20 as the season drags on, with Boro potentially pipping the Baggies to a promotion spot down the line, if Azaz can keep this top form going across the full 46-game schedule.

Now worth £4.1m, according to Transfermarkt, West Brom must heavily regret not attempting to put up more of a fight to keep the Boro number 20 at the club when they could, with the 24-year-old going on to back up comments made by Villa academy manager Mark Harrison back in 2021 that he is a “clever” player on the ball.

Corberan will just pray he has enough at his disposal – away from Azaz shining for Boro – to ensure another playoff spot is reached at a minimum.
