ATRASADOS GERARAM FILA

Durante o primeiro tempo, havia muitos torcedores tentando entrar no estádio.

VAIAS A GABRIEL JESUS

EXPLOSÃO NO GOL E APLAUSOS A PAQUETÁ

West Brom struck gold on Hawthorns ace who is worth even more than Holgate

West Bromwich Albion are still unbeaten in the Championship during the early stages of the season, with three wins and one draw picked up from their opening four second-tier clashes.

Convincingly putting Queens Park Rangers to the sword on the opening day 3-1, the style of win that got Carlos Corberan's men over the line versus Swansea City last time out was a little more defensive in approach however, as a Jayson Molumby strike in first-half stoppage time secured a 1-0 victory.

Only shippingtwo goals across this unbeaten patch of fixtures, it's clear to see that Corberan's men excel when games turn into a backs-against-the-wall type of affair, with the Baggies only boosted at the back further by the surprise deadline day addition of Mason Holgate.

Holgate's transfer to West Brom

This will actually be Holgate's second time pulling on a West Brom strip, having starred at the Hawthorns on loan during the 2018/19 season in the Championship, which ended in the West Midlands side missing out on promotion via the play-offs.

Corberan and Co will hope the 6-foot defender coming back for another spell can see promotion happen this time around after finding his minutes had significantly dried up at Goodison Park under Sean Dyche of late, with only 16 minutes gifted to him for the Toffees this campaign during the disastrous opener versus Brighton and Hove Albion.

The 27-year-old is fondly remembered for playing his part in West Brom sealing a play-off spot, with a mightily impressive total of 7.6 duels won per match during that very season, as the former Baggies number 68 put his neck on the line time after time for his loan side.

With Cedric Kipre no longer at Corberan's disposal, Holgate will be able to offer the Championship promotion candidates another body unafraid to roll his sleeves up for the cause at the back, alongside the already imperious set of defenders at the Hawthorns in Kyle Bartley, Semi Ajayi and more.

Still, although he has 137 Premier League appearances under his belt, Holgate's transfer value – as per Football Transfers – has taken a gigantic hit owing to his lesser ranking now in the Toffees pecking order, with the former England U21 international once worth a staggering £19m back in October of 2022.

Now, he's worth just £1.5m, as he aims to get back to his previous best moving down a division, next to established West Brom first-team face Darnell Furlong, who is actually worth more than the once exciting Toffees youngster.

Furlong's transfer value in 2024

The former Queens Park Rangers ace showed how pivotal he is to Corberan's men versus Luke Williams' Swans, with this last-ditch tackle denying what could have been a game-changing goal in favour of the Welsh visitors.

The 28-year-old right-back's value stands at a hefty £2.3m as a result of his concrete spot in the West Brom first-team, with Furlong ever-present in his side's last 52 second-tier games on the trot.

It's clear from his top-drawer display against Swansea why Corberan continues to pick Furlong week in week out, with a 91% pass accuracy managed and two key passes tallied up as a bright presence going forward, as much as he can also be dogged defensively.

Holgate can operate in a similar fashion too, with the reserve Everton figure capable of slotting in at full-back if needed, which could prove to be useful to the Baggies as the season progresses.

Darnell Furlong

Still, Furlong continues to prove his worth away from any new recruits joining, more than justifying the £1.5m spent on his services back in 2019, by now being worth nearly £1m more.

Liam Livingstone upstages Jos Buttler's Blast return to power Lancashire home

Derbyshire slip to opening-day defeat as Livingstone marries judgement to his talent

Paul Edwards09-Jun-2021

Liam Livingstone fired Lancashire’s run chase•Barry Mitchell/Lancashire Cricket

A few white-tailed sea eagles were reintroduced to the Isle of Wight recently and a similarly admirable project has resulted in the globally endangered large blue butterfly successfully breeding on Rodborough Common in Gloucestershire. We should not expect too much of these initiatives, though; your chances of having glimpsed either of these natural wonders over the last few years are still slight. But until today such prospects were far greater than the likelihood of your having seen Joseph Charles Buttler playing cricket for Lancashire.Buttler () last turned out in his county’s scarlet plumage for their Vitality Blast semi-final against Worcestershire on September 15, 2018 yet the view that he is a Lancashire cricketer in name only will be countered this week and next when he plays six T20 matches for the Lightning. The venues are far away from Somerset, his , but at least they will allow Buttler to reconnect for a week or so with domestic cricket. To judge from the reaction when Buttler came out to bat at Emirates Old Trafford this afternoon he will be made very welcome. The cheer that greeted his arrival was exceeded in volume only a few times this afternoon and one of those occasions saluted the searing straight-drive played by Liam Livingstone that ended the game in Lancashire’s favour by six wickets with three balls to spare.Related

Gleeson on stress fracture: 'It was like being stabbed repeatedly'

Duckett: 'I've certainly had setbacks but they've made me who I am'

In truth the home side’s pursuit of 169 had always seemed a little more comfortable than that, although their run chase would have been a little hairier had Livingstone been caught at deep midwicket on 55 when Leus du Plooy collided with the substitute fielder Mattie McKiernan when both were sprinting like students on a promise to get under a catch.Neither was seriously injured but Derbyshire’s chances suffered grievous hurt. Livingstone went on to make 94 not out off 58 balls and batted with a perfect sense of his responsibilities. This was mixed with the fine strokeplay that saw him belt ten fours and snot a couple of big sixes, and on a day when nearly 4,000 supporters applauded one world-class cricketer in Buttler it was also a reminder that Livingstone, while a great talent, is also, as yet, an unfulfilled one; a player who, when he marries judgement to talent, could be a first-choice pick for England, even in the five-day format. It is up to him.As for Buttler, he had a very respectable afternoon, conceding no byes in Derbyshire’s 168 for 7 and then making 30 off 28 balls before he reverse-swept Luis Reece straight to Fynn Hudson-Prentice at short third man. But the England wicketkeeper was only one of three Lancashire batters to share fifty-plus partnerships with Livingstone. Finn Allen marked his Lancashire debut by making 29 off 13 balls and putting on 53 with his new opening partner. And then when Buttler was gone Dane Vilas joined Barrow’s finest and saw his side all but home in a stand of 54 in 5.4 overs.Derbyshire also made a substantial contribution to a game in which both sides’ fielding was not yet attuned to the pace of the short-form game. The visitors’ best player was Reece, who was also born in Taunton, quirkily enough, just over a month before Jos’ mum brought her son out to bat for the first time.Jos Buttler played his first Lancashire game since September 2018•Barry Mitchell/Lancashire Cricket

Indeed, the first half of Derbyshire’s innings was dominated by Reece, who made 59 against the county he last represented in 2016. As is almost the norm in such innings, there were three sixes, the most unorthodox of them an outrageous switch-hit off Tom Hartley. Reece took heaviest toll of Richard Gleeson, whose only over in his return to first-team cricket after nine months out with a stress fracture cost 21 runs. Gleeson might observe drily that he had dealt with the fracture; now all he had was the stress. After Reece had been given out leg before when attempting to reverse-sweep Danny Lamb, Derbyshire’s momentum was maintained by du Plooy, who made 34, and Alex Hughes, who contributed 28 to their 52-run fourth wicket partnership before both batters holed out to successive balls from Matt Parkinson in the 18th over. That left the legspinner with 3 for 28, his team’s most impressive figures, although in truth both Danny Lamb and Livingstone performed as competently, both conceding fewer runs and bowling at tricky points in the innings.Though Derbyshire’s total was competitive it came at a heavy cost. When diving to complete a single Wayne Madsen injured his hamstring, a fact of which he only became aware when he attempted to get up and promptly fell over again. The sight of the Derbyshire batter being helped from the field does not bode well for his side’s prospects in this year’s Blast and it may also have more local consequences in this city; Madsen has been signed up to play for the Manchester Originals in the Hundred.

Veja abaixo:

Newcastle sold a defender for £90k, now he has more career goals than Isak

Newcastle United will be hoping to have a better season this term compared to 2023/24, where they missed out on the top four in the Premier League while exiting Europe before Christmas.

Key to their success will be whether Alexander Isak can maintain the form he displayed last season, as his presence will be key for Eddie Howe if the club wishes to finish in the European spots.

Despite being only 24, Isak has scored 108 goals during his senior career, not a bad statistic at all.

Newcastle have had plenty of players in recent years who have managed to notch up a fair number of goals in their careers, some with the club and several elsewhere.

One player who has enjoyed an excellent career after leaving the Magpies is defender James Tavernier, who has even more goals than Isak.

How much Newcastle sold James Tavernier for

After making just ten appearances for the Toon during the early part of his career, Tavernier sought a club where first team opportunities would be at a premium.

Wigan Athletic came in for him during the summer of 2014, paying a fee in the region of just £90k to lure him to the club, although he would only play 13 times for the club.

While he clearly wasn’t in any future plans at Newcastle, it is evident the club have endured a howler by letting him go for so little, especially considering the impact he has had north of the border at Glasgow Rangers.

James Tavernier’s statistics at Rangers

The Light Blues signed Tavernier in 2015 as Mark Warburton was aiming to return the club to the top flight after a spell in the lower divisions.

It soon proved to be an inspirational signing, as the right-back registered 38 goal contributions in all competitions for the Gers, sealing a top-flight return and reaching the Scottish Cup final.

The next few years would see the club struggle to acclimatise back in the Premiership, suffering back-to-back third-place finishes, before Steven Gerrard took the reins.

Under the former Liverpool captain, Tavernier would begin to accumulate more goals and assists, eventually helping his team win their first league title in a decade during the 2020/21 campaign.

While he may be struggling so far this season, overall, the 32-year-old has scored a remarkable 133 goals throughout his senior career, with 125 of those coming with Rangers.

Add in another 138 assists, and it is clear Tavernier has more than left his legacy at the Light Blues over the previous nine years, winning three major trophies and leading them to the 2022 Europa League final.

He has more club goals than Isak, which is no mean feat considering the Swede’s attacking prowess. While moving away from Newcastle was the right move back in 2014, it has become clear the Magpies messed up by ditching the defender too soon.

Pitch battle in prospect as England, India resume long-form rivalry

First Test encounter for seven years sets the scene for multi-format series

Valkerie Baynes15-Jun-2021Big pictureThey call it the seven-year itch, and after so long in the Test-match wilderness, India are ready for a change of scene that they and their opponents, England, hope will be anything but dull or scratchy. So rare are women’s Tests that there is a sense of pressure to provide excitement, not least to a live TV audience, as well as to fans who are just beginning to whet their appetites for witnessing the action in person as pandemic-enforced restrictions slowly ease. But more pressing for two professional sports teams is the will to win. England haven’t done so at home to India in eight completed Test matches while India are playing just their second Test since their last meeting in the format in 2014, having also played and beaten South Africa later the same year. In fact, India are on a three-match winning streak in Tests – if you can call it a streak given that that streak began in 2006 – and victory in Bristol would pull them clear of Australia to a women’s record number of Test victories on the trot.Related

Both sides boast Test-match experience, with eight members of India’s squad and 11 of England’s having played the format before. The home contingent’s recall may be better given that it hasn’t quite been two years since their last match, the 2019 Ashes affair at Taunton that became a bit of a talking point for petering out to a rather dull draw.News that this match will be played on a pitch used for the men’s T20 Blast last Friday may boost hopes of a result but it doesn’t exactly buy in to the hype surrounding this match, which has been considerable given that the men’s WTC final between India and New Zealand starts on Friday. At least an otherwise iffy weather forecast is clear for the first day of the Women’s Test, offering them a prime chance to turn heads and perhaps even seduce a wider audience. It also sets the stage for more to come with the Test forming the first part of a multi-format series incuding three ODIs and three T20Is.In the spotlightLauren Winfield-Hillwas identified early on in England’s preparations to open the batting alongside Tammy Beaumont. While experienced in Tests – she has played three, including the last time these two sides met – it will be her first since the 2017 Ashes. It also marks a comeback of sorts to the England set-up after struggles with Crohn’s disease caused her to battle for game time over the past year. But with her illness under better control, she has found form in lead-up matches – practice and domestic – which could make her one to watch.Punam Raut made a breakthrough of sorts during India’s 4-1 ODI series loss to South Africa in March. A match-winning century partnership with Smriti Mandhana followed by two fifties and an unbeaten 104 off 123 balls finally showed she has more than one dimension. While her long-earned reputation as slow accumulator is suited to the Test format, showing an ability to step up the scoring rate when needed suggests an emerging adaptability that could prove useful depending on the match situation.Team newsEngland have settled on their XI but captain Heather Knight wouldn’t reveal her side before all the players had been told. Knight has spoken glowingly of fast bowler Emily Arlott since before she earned her maiden England call-up to the squad and has been further impressed during practice by her pace and “handy” form with the bat, suggesting she could be in line for a debut that would mark a stellar rise. Knight could be tempted to roll over some of her offbreaks with two left-handers in India’s line-up and having overcome a recent back problem that forced her to put bowling on the backburner in training for a while. She could call up another offspinner in Mady Viliers but left-armer Sophie Ecclestone seems too good a weapon to leave out.England (possible): 1 Tammy Beaumont, 2 Lauren Winfield-Hill, 3 Heather Knight (capt), 4 Amy Jones, 5 Nat Sciver, 6 Sophia Dunkley, 7 Fran Wilson/Georgia Elwiss, 8 Katherine Brunt, 9 Anya Shrubsole, 10 Sophie Ecclestone, 11 Emily Arlott/Kate CrossIndia are expected to opt for three frontline pacers in Jhulan Goswami, Shikha Pandey, and either Arundhati Reddy or Pooja Vastrakar. Their main spin option will come down to a choice between Poonam Yadav and Ekta Bisht bowling alongside Deepti Sharma and Harmanpreet Kaur. It’s most likely fans will have to wait at least until the ODIs starting next week to see the exciting 17-year-old batter Shafali Verma in action with India’s top order well-stocked with experienced campaigners.India (possible): 1 Smriti Mandhana, 2 Jemimah Rodrigues/Priya Punia, 3 Punam Raut, 4 Mithali Raj (capt), 5 Harmanpreet Kaur, 6 Deepti Sharma, 7 Taniya Bhatia (wk), 8 Jhulan Goswami, 9 Shikha Pandey, 10 Poonam Yadav/Ekta Bisht, 11 Arundhati Reddy/Pooja VastrakarPitch and conditionsThe match will be played on a pitch used for Gloucestershire’s T20 Blast match against Sussex last Friday, which Knight branded “not ideal” and tried in vain to have changed. The weather could well play a big part with warmth and bright sunshine forecast for the opening day, followed by a high chance of rain, particularly on Thursday and Saturday.Mithali Raj and Shikha Pandey seal victory for India in the 2014 Test•Getty Images

Stats and trivia England are seeking their first home Test win against India in eight completed matches The game will be Heather Knight’s 100th as England captain India will be playing their first Test in 2401 days If India win, they will break the record for most consecutive wins in women’s Tests pulling clear of Australia, with whom they are currently tied at three apiece.Quotes”You obviously want to be entertaining and want to put on a show, and show off the best of your skills and the best of women’s cricket, but our job first and foremost is to try and win and be successful. That’s at the forefront of our mind, and if we can do both at the same time, even better.”
“You ask any modern-day cricketer, they still want to play the longer format because they eventually know that the format tests the skill of a player.”
