Chelsea have had another head-turning huge money transfer window this summer, taking Todd Boehly's spending spree to over £1bn in the last 12 months.

The American owner has had no trouble living up to the high expectations and cut-throat legacy that Roman Abramovich left behind when he sold the club in 2022 – with many experienced players being moved on, high-profile incomings aplenty and a high turnover in managerial appointments with three managers already given the chop ahead of the appointment of Mauricio Pochettino.

Now Boehly will be hoping that the hard work done behind the scenes will start to reflect on the pitch after Chelsea suffered a 12th-place Premier League finish, which meant the Blues failed to qualify for European football of any kind.

Whilst Chelsea have spent nothing short of a fortune this summer and brought in a number of high-profile signings, it is looking like the club are not ready to close the chequebook just yet, with less than two weeks left to complete deals in this transfer window.

Who are Chelsea's transfer targets?

The west London outfit completed deals for two of their top targets with Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia joining the fold at Stamford Bridge this week.

Not only that, Chelsea has completed deals for Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku and Alex Disasi to name a few of the newcomers beyond youth prospects.

Now the Blues could be set to provide competition for their brand-new striker with a move for Elye Wahi, who has been continuously linked to the club over the last month.

According to Foot Mercato, West Ham United are pushing forward to secure his signature, however, it is Chelsea who are the only side who has made an offer so far, amounting to €27m (£23m).

How good is Elye Wahi?

Whilst Jackson is yet to be given enough opportunities to prove himself in the centre-forward role at Stamford Bridge, Pochettino is in no position to be seeing out another Premier League season like the previous.

Ensuring that there is enough depth in the squad to allow the former Tottenham Hotspur boss to rotate his goalscorers will be essential in their pursuit to compete at a higher level and secure European football this season.

As a result, the signing of Wahi would be a great piece of business for Chelsea as they look to repair mistakes of the past, as he could be an even bigger talent than Jackson.

Indeed, over 33 Ligue 1 appearances last season, the 20-year-old Frenchman – once hailed a "magnificent young talent" by journalist Josh Bunting – scored 19 goals, registered five assists and created seven big chances, as well as averaging 1.9 shots on goal per game, according to SofaScore.

In comparison to his positional peers across the top five European leagues over the last 12 months per 90 minutes played, Wahi ranked in the top 6% for non-penalty goals scored and the top 20% for progressive carries, as per FBref.

Jackson's talent has never been in doubt, however, Wahi's consistency and prolific finishing in front of goal will be hard to ignore for Pochettino if he does join Chelsea and would be a huge threat to the newly-signed striker's current nailed-on spot in the starting XI.

The new Blues forward may well have scored two goals and registered three assists during a supreme pre-season, but compared to Wahi only found the net on 13 occasions last season at Villarreal. At this moment in time, then, the Ligue 1 starlet is a more clinical asset.

With that being said, it will be interesting to see whether Wahi will be the next signing on Boehly's list this summer, but if he could continue his goal-scoring form in west London, it would be a game-changer for Chelsea.

Colin Munro scorched his way to a 54-ball hundred – his second in T20Is this year – to break India and force the series into a decider in Thiruvananthapuram. He made excellent use of four chances to launch New Zealand to 196 for 2 after they had opted to bat and though Virat Kohli made a vintage 65 in response, the rapidly rising scoreboard pressure was just too much to overcome.India were forced into a situation where they had to score more than two runs a ball in the last 10 overs. Even the best finishers struggle to maintain such a high pace for such a long time. Hardik Pandya, new to the role, fell for 1 and even an old hand like MS Dhoni never got going. At a stage when the asking rate was nudging 15, he was playing a run-a-ball innings, unable to hit Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi off their plan of attacking his pads.A better fielding effort could have helped the hosts as well. Bhuvneshwar Kumar dropped a very tough chance at deep midwicket – the kind where a player has to decide whether to take the catch or save a six. Munro was on 36 then. He gave a far simpler opportunity to Shreyas Iyer at long-on but the ball was parried the ball over the rope for six. A wayward throw from Rohit Sharma came to Munro’s rescue in the 12th over. And finally, on 79, he was dropped by Chahal running back from cover.Given so many lives, Munro capitalised. His batting is founded on a simple strategy: stay leg side of the ball and belt it and an easy-paced hit-through-the-line Rajkot pitch was right up his alley. The left-arm quick first burst through the gate of Shikhar Dhawan with a nip-backer and four balls later, he coaxed an outside edge from Rohit with extra bounce. When Pandya was fooled by a googly from Ish Sodhi for 1, India were reduced to 67 for 4 in the 10th over.The early wickets, however, did not bother Kohli. He forayed down the track and drilled Boult over his head. Then he targetted Santner and hit him for three boundaries in five balls, including a shovelled six over long-on. However, as the ball got older, it began to grip in the pitch and that brought Sodhi into the game big time. A peach of a legbreak in the 13th over very nearly had Dhoni stumped for 8.Spin continued being New Zealand’s trump card through the middle overs as they tied down one end which kept piling the pressure on Kohli at the other.An equation of 85 off 30 balls needed both batsmen to fire but try as Dhoni might, he couldn’t find his range. He came down the track but rarely got the leverage he was looking for. He nudged the ball into the deep to steal twos but the fielders were wise to that trick. He even swung right across the line but nothing worked. He was 28 off 28 at the end of the 18th over.To compensate for that, Kohli charged out to Santner and was caught behind. Boult then took over, picked up a couple more wickets and wrapped the game up with a career-best 4 for 34. He had recorded his worst ODI and T20I outings over the past week but found a way to raise his game when New Zealand needed it most.

O confronto

O Grêmio ampliou a sua excelente vantagem com apenas 13 minutos abriu o marcador. Everton carimbou o poste e Diego Souza completou para o fundo das redes, 1 a 0.

Melhor em campo, o Tricolor não dava chances ao Caxias e ditava o ritmo de jogo. Jean Pyerre assustou de fora da área e deixou o grito de gol preso na garganta dos gremistas.

Tímido no sistema ofensivo, o Grená pouco fazia. Nos minutos finais, quando conseguiu equilibrar o duelo, o Caxias empatou. No cruzamento de Ivan, Laércio cabeceou para vencer Vanderlei, 1 a 1.

Com a necessidade de marcar pelo menos dois gols, o Caxias se lançou ao ataque e foi premiado aos 8 minutos. Bruninho cruzou, Kannemann tentou cortar e a bola caiu dentro da rede, 2 a 1.

A virada Grená deixou o duelo dramático. Irritado com a postura dos atletas, Portaluppi perdeu a paciência na beira do campo e gritava a todo instante, mas o Tricolor não conseguia voltar aos jogos.

Na casa dos 37 minutos a chance de aniquilar a decisão caiu nos pés de Thiago Neves. Após sobra na área, o camisa 10 pegou de primeira e Pitol salvou.

Nos minutos finais, com a necessidade de marcar pelo menos mais um gol para levar o jogo nas penalidades máximas, Laércio aproveitou a pressão do Caxias e deu um biquinho na bola. Vanderlei se esticou todo e salvou com a ponta dos dedos.

E realmente Fagner deve continuar escrevendo seu nome na história do Corinthians, já que com mais cinco jogos pelo clube ele irá se igualar a Servílio, que tem 364, e está na 21ª posição no ranking. Isso não deve parar por aí, pois pela regularidade do lateral, outros nomes históricos do clube devem ser superados em breve, como Tião (367 jogos) e Gilmar (395 jogos).

Aos 31 anos, Fagner está em sua oitava temporada no Timão, a sétima desde que retornou ao clube em que for formado. Desde então são cinco títulos conquistados (Brasileirão 2015 e 2017, Paulistão 2017, 2018 e 2019), além de ter ido a uma Copa do Mundo com a Seleção Brasileira, em 2018, na Rússia.

Manchester United target Benjamin Pavard has reportedly received a promise from Erik ten Hag, with the defender keen to make the move to Old Trafford.

Are Man United signing Benjamin Pavard?

The Red Devils have splashed the cash so far this summer on deals for midfielder Mason Mount, goalkeeper Andre Onana and forward Rasmus Hojlund from Chelsea, Inter Milan and Atalanta respectively.

In total, those at Old Trafford have spent over £160m on the three players and have only brought in around £30m in sales. Anthony Elanga’s move to Nottingham Forest brought in the biggest fee so far, and further exits may need to materialise in order for the club to make new signings.

In midfield, Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat, Everton’s Amadou Onana and Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberch have all been linked with moves to Old Trafford, and there have also been rumours of a defensive addition.

Pavard appears to be a player of interest in Manchester, with reports claiming that personal terms have already been agreed with Bayern Munich wanting around €50m (£42.9m) for the France international.

Man United have already had a bid rejected by Bayern, and a further update has now emerged. The Faithful MUFC relayed news from France regarding Pavard in the last 48 hours, claiming that the player wants to join Old Trafford.

It is believed that Ten Hag has promised Pavard he would be a regular starter with the Red Devils, and despite an offer made by Inter Milan, the defender wants to sign for Man United.

Is Harry Maguire leaving Man United?

If Pavard is to make the move to England, then United may have to move on a defender before the window closes. It looked as if they would do just that after an agreement was reached with West Ham for Harry Maguire, however, a transfer is now off.

Maguire seemingly wants to stay at Old Trafford beyond the summer window, something which could impact the pursuit of Pavard.

However, should Pavard end up joining Man United, he would offer a more versatile option than Maguire. The player himself has said that he is primarily a centre-back but can also turn out as a right-back.

“My position is a central defender. It always has been, this is where I feel most comfortable, where I take the most pleasure. This is where I find myself the best. I think we see more of my qualities in this position.

“If the great coaches put me on the right side, it is because they have confidence in my abilities. With Deschamps I have always been a holder. If he trusts me it’s not for my beautiful eyes or my hair. He is aware of my qualities. After that I have to improve in certain areas: I have to take more risks, more initiatives, I am aware of it and I work on that on a daily basis.

“A defender must first defend well. On paper, Pavard may be less sexy than Hakimi, Arnold, but I find that defensively I am more complete.”

A move could still be one to watch as we approach the end of the transfer window due to the player’s willingness to make the switch to England, however, financially, it may prove to be difficult, especially if Maguire stays.

Burnley could be on the prowl for another striker this summer, with reports linking the club to another talent in what has been a busy transfer window for Vincent Kompany.

The Clarets couldn’t have started their return to the Premier League in tougher fashion, as treble winners Manchester City graced the field of Turf Moor, where Kompany suffered opening day defeat at the hands of his former club.

While their movement in the transfer window has been busy, their start to life in the top-flight has been the opposite, with Burnley missing out on game week two due to Luton Town’s inability to host their fixture due to ongoing improvements to Kenilworth Road.

Who could Burnley sign this summer?

Earlier this week, journalist Dominik Schneider revealed Burnley’s interest in Portuguese midfielder Renato Veiga, with an offer of £5.5m put on the table for Sporting Lisbon to consider.

In other reports, Football Insider has named the Clarets as one of the clubs in the race to sign Hertha Berlin starlet Derry Scherhant, with Championship trio Blackburn Rovers, Queens Park Rangers and Preston North End also eyeing a loan move for the German.

Football Insider stated that Burnley have already enquired over the 20-year-old’s availability earlier in the summer, with the player said to be valued at around £1.5m.

Who is Derry Scherhant?

Deployed as a left-winger with the ability to be positioned as a number nine, Hertha’s starlet is certainly a player to watch the movements of.

The 20-year-old is currently playing for the side’s ‘B’ team, featuring in the Regionalliga Northeast league in which he has made a flying start by scoring three goals and registering one assist over the opening two fixtures, via Transfermarkt.

Playing in the league since the 2021/22 campaign with Hertha BSC II, the German has contributed to 38 goals in 48 appearances, scoring 27 and assisting 11 to showcase just how dazzling his talents are in the final third.

While the Premier League is far from the fourth tier of German football, the 20-year-old’s talents have been repaid, with him earning 10 Bundesliga appearances last campaign in which he scored his first goal in the top-flight.

Described by journalist Leon Potuzhek as being “too good” for the league he is most regularly playing in, the dynamic youngster could be the perfect addition to one day flourish in Kompany’s side.

It wouldn't be the first time that Turf Moor had seen a winger making an impact on the left flank, with former star Dwight McNeil once bringing excitement for the Clarets before he joined Everton.

The Englishman netted seven goals in the Premier League during his time at Burnley, where he was praised as “fantastic” as a 19-year-old playing under Sean Dyche.

The youthful spark and electrifying cameos that the Everton ace once brought to Turf Moor could be encapsulated through a signing as promising as Scherhant, who has a similarly direct nature of play to the former winger.

With interest coming from a host of levels in England, Kompany should act fast if he is to capture the rising talent, in what could be a huge move for both player and club.
