Crystal Palace: Fans react as Jonathan David is linked

Many Crystal Palace fans are reacting to the news that Genk striker Jonathan David is a player that the club are keeping their eyes on.

The Canadian has already set the Belgian league alight, scoring 37 goals in 83 appearances, per Transfermarkt. This is a very impressive tally at only 20 years-old and he has also managed to get three goals in seven Europa League appearances, showing he can perform consistently at continental level.

It is not just David’s goals that have caught the eye of the Premier League side either, as he has averaged 2.1 shots and 1.1 successful dribbles per game, per WhoScored, which highlights how much confidence the player has as an attacking threat.

According to the Guardian, Palace have shown interest in signing the forward, but he favours a move to Germany. Indeed, it is thought that Borussia Monchengladbach are very keen on the Canadian (Het Laatste Nieuws via BuliNews).

The attacker has already been linked to Arsenal and Manchester United too, via the Daily Express, so he clearly has the potential which some high profile clubs clubs want to unlock.

Whether Palace can compete with these clubs and sign him remains to be seen, but it seems he would certainly be a popular addition if the Eagles did get him – probably due to his fantastic goal record in Belgium…

Rodney Parade

Key Information about Rodney Parade

Rodney Parade is one of the oldest football stadiums in England to house new tenants, and it has been the home of Newport County AFC since 2012 after the club decided to move from their previous home of Spytty Stadium due to new requirements of the club.

The Exiles moved to Rodney Parade, which originally opened in 1877 and owned by Newport Athletic Club who used it for various sports such as cricket and rugby.

A history of Rodney Parade

In May 2012, the Exiles decided to move to Rodney Parade for the new 2012-13 season, and they extended their stay at the ground by signing a ten-year lease in February the following year. The move meant that Newport had to ground-share with Newport RFC who had been using the stadium since the 1800s, and also with Newport Dragons. Rodney Parade was famously the first stadium in Wales to install floodlights, and in October 1879, the stadium made history by hosting the first-ever floodlit rugby match in Wales.

In recent years, Newport RFC shareholders agreed the sale of the ground to the Welsh Rugby Union, and in 2017, work began on installing a hybrid grass pitch which would be suitable for both rugby and football matches with no wear and tear. Newport County achieved their great escape at Rodney Parade, where they avoided relegation in 2016-17 and also managed to defeat Leeds United whilst drawing with Tottenham Hotspur.

The record attendance at Rodney Parade still stands at a massive 9,836 which is around 2000 more than the current capacity of the stadium. This came after the Emirates FA Cup Fourth Round match against Tottenham Hotspur, and this was only achieved due to the temporary construction of two stands – one in the home and away ends. Despite this, the highest league attendance for the Exiles at Rodney Parade was 7,326 which was achieved during the final match of the 2016-17 season against Notts County.

Although this was not an official football attendance, the highest ever attendance at the ground was 31,000 which was achieved all the way back in 1952 when Newport RFC faced South Africa.

Rodney Parade has two covered stands; the two-tiered Compeed Stand and the Bisley Stand which are located in the west and east of the stadium subsequently. The upper tier of the west stand is all seated with 1,996 seats and the east stand is all-seated with just over 2,500 seats, also including a television gantry with cameras.

Tickets to Watch Newport County at Rodney Parade

Single matchday tickets for adults are priced from £20-22 depending on which stand is preferred, seniors can watch for £18, young adults from £14, and under-16s from £8 whilst under-6s can go for free if accompanied by a paying adult.

If preferred, season tickets can be obtained by adults for £368 which in turn will save them £139 across all 23 home fixtures. For seniors it costs £263, for young adults, it is £158, and for under-16s they range from £0-53 depending on age.

Manchester United: Red Devils in ‘advanced talks’ with Borussia Dortmund over Jadon Sancho

Manchester United are in ‘advanced talks’ to sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund this summer, according to The Guardian.

Discussions between the two clubs are still ongoing over the structure of the transfer fee, although it is understood Dortmund will accept less than what they had previously hoped for as part of the deal.

Respected transfer guru Fabrizio Romano revealed Man United want to pay the full fee in instalments with add-ons.

The Italian journalist reports Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are keen to sign him for an initial €100m (£90m) which would break the transfer record for an English player.

While the Red Devils are yet to reach an agreement, it is claimed the German giants could accept a scenario that would see the Old Trafford club pay the figure over the next few seasons for the 11-cap England international, with an additional €20m on-top for performance-related bonuses.

As far as Solskjaer is concerned, Sancho is his top transfer target this summer, as United have been monitoring him for some time.

The right winger was Dortmund’s top scorer last season, having scored 20 goals and supplied 18 assists in all competitions (via WhoScored).

Negotiations have reportedly intensified in recent weeks as the Bundesliga challengers want to find a resolution as soon as possible in order to look for a suitable replacement in the summer.

Ed Woodward is expected to break the English transfer record for the second time during Solskjaer’s time in charge at the Theatre of Dreams, having signed Harry Maguire from Leicester City for £85m last year.

United qualified for the Champions League after clinching third place in the Premier League table on the final day of the season which has improved their chances of signing Sancho in the summer as this has increased their sizeable transfer kitty. Securing Champions League qualification has also played a key part in persuading the 20-year-old to return to England.

The former Manchester City academy graduate will be expected to compete with Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood for a place in the starting lineup.

While there is still some way to go until the transfer window closes in October, Dortmund have set a deadline of August 10 to sort out a deal for Sancho before they start their preparations for next season. The board will have to act quickly as a result if Solskjaer wants to get his man.

Tottenham Hotspur: Spurs are in negotiations with Inter Milan over swap deal for Tanguy Ndombele

Tottenham Hotspur are in negotiations with Inter Milan to sell Tanguy Ndombele this summer.

That’s according to Sky Italy, as relayed by @HotspurRelated, who claim that Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho is pushing for the transfer.

Recent reports revealed Spurs have opened discussions with Inter to sort out a deal as Ndombele, who is the club’s record signing, wants to leave north London following a falling out with Mourinho.

It’s no secret the pair share a frosty relationship which has come under intense scrutiny in recent weeks, although Daniel Levy has insisted the six-cap French international is not for sale, and the Lilywhites are reportedly not interested in letting him leave.

The Spurs chairman feels the Frenchman simply needs time to adjust to life in the Premier League, where he is away from his family, as this is not the first time the club have had to cope with a new signing who has struggled to settle down in north London. His teammate Son Heung-min suffered a similar issue following his first season at White Hart Lane.

However, Le10 Sport has now shed new light on the subject, which suggests Levy may let him go, but only on one condition.

Sources told the French publication that the Lilywhites will let the 23-year-old leave if a club meets his colossal asking price.

It is understood that Levy is demanding £63m for the former Lyon ace, although the report adds that Inter have not made an offer as it stands, while Paris Saint-Germain cannot afford to spend such a huge sum of money at the moment.

Ndombele has had a tricky start to his Premier League career, having scored twice and supplied two assists last term. The French midfielder hardly featured at all following the restart, making a mere two appearances from the bench, before being dropped from the squad after picking up an injury.

Nevertheless, Levy may live to regret letting him go for a quick cash grab if the right bid arrives in the summer.

Although he is a shadow of his former self at the moment, it was not so long ago that he was once considered one of Europe’s hottest prospects during his time at Lyon.

Spurs must be patient as it is up to Mourinho to get the best out of him, because he has shown flashes of what he can offer in the Champions League.

The Lilywhites may rue the day if they let him go as he could go on to become a success at the Parc des Princes or San Siro instead.

Everton must avoid Diogo Dalot move after Richarlison terrorised him

Everton are in need of additions across the board if they are to truly put themselves in European contention next season, but latest reports should strike fear down the spines of the Goodison Park faithful…

What’s the word?

According to Portuguese outlet O Jogo, the Toffees are one of the teams interested in handing Manchester United outcast Diogo Dalot a lifeline as he’s struggled for game time under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this season.

It’s claimed that Carlo Ancelotti is a big fan of the attack-minded defender but Ligue 1 champions and Champions League finalists Paris Saint-Germain are also keen.

Dalot cost United £19m from Porto in 2018 and could be sold in order to garner extra transfer funds.

Everton must swerve

Some in Merseyside will instantly recognise the 6-foot wing-back after he started in the 4-0 thrashing of the Red Devils back in April 2019 – the Toffees had four different goalscorers on the scoresheet as they rocked United at Goodison.

One of which was right-winger Richarlison, who had a complete field day up against the Portugal U21 international.

Per SofaScore, the Everton star had six shots at goal, won three duels and was fouled once whilst the 21-year-old lost possession 18 times and had a disappointing 69% passing accuracy.

Jose Mourinho compared him to United great Gary Neville upon signing him, claiming that he was their full-back for the next decade – clearly, that hasn’t gone to plan whatsoever.

Two assists from 20 Premier League appearances, via Transfermarkt, is hardly inspiring either, so surely Marcel Brands is better off looking elsewhere if he’s going to find genuine competition for Seamus Coleman next term.

Now valued at just £10.8m, Dalot should be one huge swerve from the Merseysiders.

Spurs fans slam Moussa Sissoko after Birmingham performance

Despite having to undergo knee surgery at the start of the calendar year, Moussa Sissoko proved himself to be one of the first names on the team-sheet under both Mauricio Pochettino and Jose Mourinho at Tottenham last season.

When fit, he played in every single game for the north London side barring the Carabao Cup defeat to Colchester United, eventually racking up a total of 35 appearances across all competitions.

World Class score: 95% | Expert score: 80% | Veteran score: 65% | Intermediate score: 45% | Amateur score: 30% | Try Again: 5%

But with the arrival of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton, Sissoko’s starting place is under threat, and after being given the opportunity to play from the off against Birmingham City in pre-season on Saturday, he didn’t seem to take his chance.

After seeing his performance, Spurs fans took to Twitter to criticise the midfielder for his display.

A couple of Spurs supporters suggested Sissoko isn’t good enough to be playing for the club, and that he should be sold, with one fan even saying that he should have gone a long time ago.

Another couple of fans even expressed their relief at seeing Sissoko being substituted for Hojbjerg during the game.

The versatile Sissoko is the kind of player arguably every team in the Premier League needs. He may not be the most flashy, or one to notch up plenty of goals and assists, but he can be relied upon to play anywhere where the manager needs him.

Last season even saw him fill in at right-back on occasion, and there is a lot of value to keeping him in the squad. He may not be the man to lead Spurs to a top-four finish, but he is the definition of a role player who can offer Jose Mourinho a lot of different uses.

Arsenal: Gunners scupper Newcastle’s transfer hopes with Rob Holding U-Turn

Arsenal have doubled back on their decision to let Rob Holding leave the club this window on loan.

According to Sky Sports (via Metro), Mikel Arteta has changed his mind over allowing the Magpies to temporarily sign the centre-back ahead of the new season.

Holding was prepared to join Newcastle for the 2020/21 season after making the transition this week. However, the Gunners have had a last minute change of heart over their plans for the 24-year-old.

According to the report, Arsenal are willing to let fellow centre-backs Sokratis Papastathopoulous, Calum Chambers and Shkodran Mustafi leave instead, which could indicate offers have already come in for one or more of the trio.

Holding was due to leave in order to receive more game time, however, he could be looking at a season on the bench for Arsenal instead.

Two of Newcastle’s centre-backs are currently sidelined due to injury, including team captain Jamaal Lascelles. Adding Holding to their ranks would have ensure they had enough defenders on-hand in case of further injuries across the backline.

Steve Bruce is said to still be interested in bringing the £8.55m-valued Englishman to Tyneside, but after playing all 90 minutes in the Community Shield, Holding could be set to stay with his parent club.

Celtic should sign assist-king Niclas Eliasson over Alfie Doughty

Celtic’s hunt for a new left-sided player continues to rumble on and time is running out rather quickly…

What’s the word?

According to The Sun, Neil Lennon is plotting a move for Bristol City wing-back Niclas Eliasson before next Monday’s transfer deadline.

It’s claimed that if the Hoops fail with a third bid for young Charlton Athletic starlet Alfie Doughty, then their attention will turn to the 24-year-old Swede instead.

Eliasson is out of contract next summer and has fallen down the pecking order at Ashton Gate since the sacking of Lee Johnson, so he could well be available for a move.

He’s valued at just £3.6m by Transfermarkt.

Who is he?

Well, it’s not the first time that the Scottish champions have been linked with a move for the Robins winger with reports first emerging back in the January transfer window, as per the Daily Record.

He’s only been able to feature in the League Cup this term, but last season, Eliasson provided three goals and 12 assists also averaging 1.7 crosses, 1.5 key passes and 1.2 dribbles per game, via WhoScored.

Johnson believed that the Swedish wizard was “one of the best” in the division whilst also claiming that he’d was “going to be amazing” in a few years time, adding: “He’s always had that USP of the amazing delivery but now he’s starting to get into better areas in terms of goalscoring and upgrading crosses.”

With Lennon changing to a three-at-the-back system again, Eliasson could well be the perfect threat from the wing – almost Patrick Roberts or Scott Sinclair like but with the need to defend too.

The PFSA laud his unique skillset, singling out his “crafty movement” as one key to his success. This is very much what you’d associate with the former Man City loanee.

Perhaps Eliasson would be the better option over a relatively raw Doughty and whilst it remains to be seen how much he’d cost, Nick Hammond could press ahead with the signing.

AND in other news, Lennon must unleash Celtic’s “special talent” over Scott Brown…

Danny Rose quickly becoming a forgotten man at Spurs

According to The Athletic, Tottenham Hotspur defender Danny Rose could stay at the club until the January transfer window or even next summer.

What’s the word?

It’s claimed by Charlie Eccleshare in the transfer deadline day tracker that the 30-year-old is said to be “relaxed” about his future at the club.

Spurs are desperate to offload the veteran left-back but due to a lack of firm interest, he’s set to stay in north London, even despite not being offered a shirt number by his manager, Jose Mourinho.

He could yet leave before the domestic deadline on October 16th if an EFL club comes in for him but that remains unlikely.

Nightmare

This is quickly becoming a nightmare for Daniel Levy as it’s so clear that no one is willing to take onboard the former England international – just like in January when Rose was pushing for a move to AC Milan, one that never came, before settling for Newcastle United.

It’s awfully damning that Mourinho is willing to put him with the youth squad despite him raking in around £60k-per-week, per Spotrac.

The north London outfit are practically burning another player’s wages or even a potential target in allowing this to happen – might have they afforded Milan Skriniar with Rose departing the club?

That very much remains to be seen.

However, Rose is soon going to be the forgotten man at Spurs even despite his 13-year stint and being a much-maligned favourite of Mauricio Pochettino’s.

The 30-year-old has made a total of 214 appearances but hasn’t been seen since the 1-0 defeat to Liverpool back in January, though the writing was on the wall as it was his first start in 12 matches.

Rose is simply wasting away at Spurs and is starting to become the ultimate financial disaster that Levy just cannot shake off.

Leeds should have bought a Kalvin Phillips alternative

Leeds United may have lost to Wolves on Monday, but dropping three points isn’t the worst thing to come away from this game.

Indeed, the Whites have come away from that match with a worrying injury to a key player as Kalvin Phillips looks set to miss six weeks of action after damaging his shoulder against the Midlands outfit.

Usually, an issue wouldn’t be such a problem for Leeds as their near-£100m spend this summer has left them with a lot of alternatives in key areas, but one thing they don’t have is a Phillips replacement.

Phillips plays a very unique role as the anchor-man in Bielsa’s 4-1-4-1 formation, and there isn’t another player in the first-team squad who plays that role like he does.

Adam Forshaw would be a decent replacement, but he’s still not fit, and even if he was, he’s not played for a year.

Leeds should have planned for this eventuality, professional footballers may be incredibly fit, but they’re not robots, injuries happen, and missing Phillips for six weeks will completely unbalance the team.

There quite simply isn’t another player in the squad who can play that role, so somebody will have to be a makeshift defensive midfielder playing out of position.

There’s no doubting that Phillips is one of Leeds’ most important players, he’s started every game so far this season and he’s an England regular these days.

He was tipped to shine in the Premier League as soon as Leeds were promoted with Kevin Phillips describing him as a ‘top player’, but now the reality is that they will be without a key man for six weeks and seven points from five games suddenly doesn’t look like such an amazing return.

The worst part is that this could all have been avoided. Victor Orta had lots of money to play with this summer, spending nearly £100m, and he completely ignored the blatant need for a back-up defensive midfielder, and if that ends up derailing United’s season, it will be an inexcusable error that the Spaniard has made.
